What I really want to do with this post is to raise more awareness about the situation on Hong Kong right now. Even though the White House has just today responded to our petition “We the People Petition on the Protests in Hong Kong” acknowledging the ongoing situation, I personally feel that many people in America are still clueless about the state of affairs.
In a crude nutshell, Hong Kong is losing their democracy through the usurping of the Chinese government. What started out as peaceful protests by university students (#umbrellamovement #occupycentral) escalated into a horrific demonstration involving police, rubber bullets, tear gas. I mean absolutely no offense to my brothers and sisters hailing from Mainland China, but I can firmly say that I do not want Hong Kong to merge with China as part of the conservative central government. Hong Kong deserves to remain a fundamentally free country. The protest is rising to the point that it may just become the next Tiananmen Square Massacre.

I may be more than 8000 miles (or for those who don’t use the metric system, nearly 13,000 kilometers) from Hong Kong, but I support Hong Kong and their citizens just the same. #香港加油
